Dr. Penny is a Canadian Orthopaedic surgeon, and a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedics Society of North America (POSNA) Dr. Penny’s current practice concentrates on the treatment of children and adolescents. He has extensive past experience in the field of sports medicine, including team support of Canadian international athletes. Dr. Penny is a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and is a faculty member at the Branch for Global Surgical Care at UBC where he teaches a graduate course on global surgery. He is former head of the division of paediatric surgery for Vancouver Island, helping coordinate surgical services with acute interventional services such as the Paediatric ICU, and he is a board member of the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island. Dr. Penny has had a long term interest in international orthopaedics. He worked for six years in Uganda setting up a children’s orthopaedic rehabilitation program and now consults in developing countries around the world. He works in advisory positions for non-governmental organizations involved in orthopaedic training and clinical care in some of the world’s poorest countries.
